Harvest of Horrors

Harvest of Horrors is a unique haunted attraction that takes place annually in the back woods of Andrew’s Farm in Falmouth, MA. Each Halloween, the organizers of the event assemble a haunted maze, and a comical stage performance. October 2009 will mark the event’s 30 year anniversary!

As a small event/business, Harvest of Horrors relies on strong publicity to attract visitors to the haunted maze. For the 2008 season, the organization contracted me to update their site in order to increase exposure.

It worked. The event drew more crowds than ever before. We concentrated on creating a truly “scary” website to parallel other haunted attractions throughout the country, and also on implementing effective SEO to garner more search-engine traffic. The site was also constructed with the ability to be easily altered and manipulated for year-to-year changes.

Site technologies include:

  • Valid CSS and XHTML; interactive Flash units for streaming media
  • Dynamically generated pages using PHP and AJAX
  • Contemporary styling with cross-browser support
  • Dynamic sitemaps, and intuitive coding for enhanced SEO

Design research was a lot of fun for this project … I strongly recommend checking Harvest of Horrors when it returns in the fall!
