Falmouth Community Solar Garden will be the first endeavor of its kind in Falmouth, MA. The organization, spearheaded by Michael Stone, is a collective solution to eliminating fossil fuels … without residents having to investing in their own expensive solar equipment. By joining the co-operative, residents of Falmouth make a long term investment into a solar utility (located at the beautiful town dump). Through sharing the costs of the equipment, the pay-off period is ridiculously short … as far as solar panels go. On top of all that, they’re really making a difference for the environment.
The organization brought me on board to fashion a web presence, aimed at recruiting members for the collective. Needless to say, the site is much less complicated than the technology it advocates.
The site is driven with a custom WordPress installation; the administrators are able to add content (press releases, imagery, etc.) with ease and receive inquiries into the program. Also, I reworked the traditional WordPress comment driver into a unique ‘events posting’ application where folks in or out of the program can post their solar events. Nifty!
If you live in Falmouth, you should really consider joining the cooperative.
